Which is the Best Laptop Charging Trolley?
Try Us - Info, Quotes & Support
Plenty of laptop charging trolleys are on the market, and it’s competitive! Each offers something unique for storing laptops and other mobile devices safely. The LapSafe product range is arguably the best, starting with the ChargeLite models and going up in price to their flagship Mentor Series. A LapSafe charging cart, with its additional security and unique charging system, is expensive and more popular with secondary schools and further education.
The mobile laptop carts from Zioxi, LapCabby and Loxit occupy the middle tier of pricing and are our recommended solutions for the education sector. Ultra cheap trolleys, like those from Pure Power, lack cable management and timer controls. In our experience, they become a mess of cables very quickly, and without power management, laptop batteries deteriorate with overcharging.
Key points, based on 15.6″ laptops or Chromebooks:
LapSafe ChargeLite
- Metal construction and small footprint.
- Fast charging and advanced power management.
- Lifetime warranty, including electrics.
- 10, 16, and 32 bay options.
- Expensive option, particularly for primary schools.
Zioxi
- Melamine construction and medium footprint.
- Power management as standard.
- 5 year warranty (2 years for electrics).
- 16 and 32 bay options.
- Best value with good cable management.
Loxit Lapbank
- Steel construction and small to medium footprint.
- Power management as standard.
- 5 year warranty (3 years for electrics).
- 10, 16, 20 and 32 bay options.
- Top loading with excellent cable management.
LapCabby UniCabby and Lyte Series
- Melamine construction and medium footprint.
- Power management with silent charging as standard.
- Lifetime warranty (5 years for electrics).
- 10, 16, 20, 32 and 40 bay options and designs.
- Cable management is not as good as the alternatives.
Classroom365 recommends the Zioxi trolleys for laptops as they offer the best value and good power management. Although they only come in 16 and 32 bay sizes, these are the most frequently requested and are aesthetically pleasing, which is a bonus! There is also a range of popular cabinets that can hold 16 or 32 laptops.
Zioxi Laptop Trolleys
The most popular models from the Zioxi series of laptop carts are the CHRGT-LS-16 and the CHRGT-LS-32, which hold 16 and 32 laptops respectively. These entry-level models are mainly for primary schools, satisfying the need for secure and cost-efficient charging of standard size 15.6” laptops. If your classrooms have 14” or below notebooks, you can consider a Chromebook charging trolley instead. It is cheaper and more compact.
Key Features of the Zioxi Laptop Trolley
- Key lock, digital code or RFID options. The key lock is the cheapest option, but if the budget can stretch, then a digital code lock is recommended as keys can be lost. A master key to override the code is also provided and it is easy to reset the code should it be compromised.
- Power management to prevent electrical surges that could damage the equipment.
- Smooth wipe clean surfaces and doors that fold back 270 degrees for easy access to the laptop compartments.
- Lockable wheels, large grip handles and a separate compartment for the laptop chargers for safety, security and ease of moving between classrooms.
- A short cable from the electrical compartment to the laptop shelf is presented, making it easy to plug the correct laptop into the charger and prevent a tangle of cables.
The pricier models of carts keep the same design but include options for USB-C charging, which is a good choice for the latest laptops that have this option.
Networking the devices for remote management and deployment is also an option with the NETT-LS-16, which includes a built-in switch and network cables for 16 laptops. In our opinion, this is an unnecessary luxury, and the benefits don’t justify the additional cost.
Benefits of Zioxi onView Laptop Charging Trolleys
The entry-level Zioxi laptop storage trolleys, and Chromebook and iPad equivalent products, can also be fitted with the Zioxi onView technology. onView features extra power saving features and environmental benefits to reduce the school’s carbon footprint and save electricity costs. Note this is not available on the network and USB-C models.
The key advantages of a Zioxi laptop trolley with onView include:
- Integrated screen with simple controls to setup WiFi, timers and Smart Charge features.
- Green Charge so charging is scheduled twice a day outside peak times.
- Smart Charge detects when a laptop is fully charged, power is cut to the individual charger.
- Initial 3-year subscription to the onView licence, that can be extended.
- Access via the web console or mobile app.
- Sensors detect whether the cart is locked or unlocked.
- Temperature monitoring and alerts if the cart is overheating. Shutdown is then initiated.
The additional cost of the onView system is around £200 (ex VAT) per trolley. While the benefits are comprehensive, they haven’t been popular in our experience, and schools need to weigh the advantages against the additional costs.
