Promethean Board Installation Service
Classroom365 provides a full Promethean installation service for schools, academies and MATs, carried out by enhanced DBS-checked installers with over 20 years of experience installing interactive displays and classroom AV. We can help with:

Safety is a priority on every installation. Digital panels are heavy items and must be securely fitted to a suitable wall or mounting system.
Promethean ActivPanel 10 for Classrooms
Classroom sizes vary, but for most classrooms we recommend 75” Promethean interactive displays. A 65” is more suitable for smaller classrooms and intervention rooms. There is also a 55” option, but this is only available with the ActivPanel 10 Premium and is suitable for offices where a smaller size and premium features are required.
An 86” screen can work well in larger classrooms, halls and shared teaching spaces, but it is worth checking wall space, viewing distance and installation requirements before choosing this size. As well as being more expensive, installation costs are usually higher because of the additional weight and larger installation team required.
Most schools will find the ActivPanel 10 the best option, although the less expensive LE screen is a budget option, comparable to the SMART Board GX Series and Clevertouch X5.
The ActivPanel 10 Premium is more expensive and better suited to higher education or premium teaching spaces, although the more powerful speakers and subwoofer are a considerable advantage in larger rooms.
Key Benefits of the ActivPanel 10 Compared to the ActivPanel LE
Both the ActivPanel 10 and ActivPanel LE ranges come in 65″, 75″ and 86″ sizes. The ActivPanel 10 series has several advantages, including:
- A brighter screen and anti-smudge, anti-fingerprint coating.
- More responsive touch response and accuracy.
- Improved pen support.
- ActivInspire Professional and two ActivSuite seats are included.
The key difference is that the LE comes with a built-in Android 14 operating system. This is also EDLA certified, meaning it has licensed access to Google apps and Google Workspace tools.
The ActivPanel 10 and 10 Premium are more modular “No OS – Secure by Design” models. For schools that want built-in apps and wireless features directly from the panel, we usually recommend adding an OPS module. Options include Microsoft Windows, Android or Chromebox, with the Android OPS often being the simplest and most cost-effective solution.
Promethean Software
Promethean has two main software options: ActivInspire and ActivSuite. Both work with Promethean ActivPanels, but they are used in slightly different ways.
ActivInspire
ActivInspire is the familiar Promethean software many teachers already know. It can be downloaded onto a laptop or device and used to create flipcharts, prepare lessons at home, or teach when connected to a Promethean panel.
There are also lots of free resources available, including the ActivInspire Resource Pack. ActivInspire Personal Edition is available as a free download, while ActivInspire Professional is included with qualifying Promethean hardware. If you are planning to use ActivInspire on non-Promethean interactive boards, it is worth checking the licensing requirements.
ActivSuite
ActivSuite is the newer software for the ActivPanel 10 range. It can be used on an OPS module or on a connected Windows, Mac or Chrome device.
In our opinion, fitting an OPS module is usually the best setup for schools. It means teachers can use the whiteboard software directly on the panel without needing to connect a laptop every time. This is useful if a teacher forgets their laptop, if supply staff are using the room, or if you want every classroom to work in the same way.
ActivSuite includes useful classroom tools such as whiteboard, timer, spinner, annotation and screen sharing. It can be accessed through Promethean once an account is set up.
Explain Everything Advanced is lesson-planning and collaboration software that is now part of Promethean ActivSuite. It is a paid annual subscription, but a free version is also available.
If your school already has older Promethean ActivBoard technology, teachers may already have ActivInspire flipcharts and lesson resources. These can often still be used, making the move to a new ActivPanel easier for staff already familiar with Promethean software.
Promethean Screens vs Other Interactive Displays
Promethean, SMART and Clevertouch are among the best-known interactive display brands in UK education and are popular choices with schools.
All three brands offer budget, mid-range and top-end models, and the market has become very competitive, especially at the budget end. Clevertouch has the X5, SMART Technologies has the GX Series, and Promethean now has the ActivPanel LE. There are also good screens from Newline, Samsung and Prowise, along with many lesser-known brands. These may look cheaper online, but once education discounts are applied, the price difference is not always as much as schools expect.
Clevertouch, SMART and Promethean all offer strong 5-year warranties and similar core hardware, although the audio, microphones, software and classroom tools are worth comparing carefully. Where the screens differ most is usually the software, operating system and how well they integrate with the way your school already works.
The SMART GX, Clevertouch X5 and Promethean ActivPanel LE are good examples of budget-friendly displays with built-in Android-style functionality. The SMART MX uses SMART’s own iQ experience, while the Promethean ActivPanel 10 and 10 Premium are more modular “No OS – Secure by Design” models. With Promethean, schools can add an OPS module or Chromebox, giving the option of Windows, Android or Chrome, but this does add another decision when choosing the right setup.
For most schools, the best choice is not just about the cheapest screen. It depends on the software, warranty, audio, Google or Microsoft setup, teacher confidence and whether the display will be used as a simple whiteboard, a full teaching hub or part of a managed classroom technology strategy.
Promethean ActivPanel Review
At Classroom365, we like and recommend Promethean boards, particularly for secondary schools. They have always been popular with secondaries, with software that feels a bit more “grown up” than some other interactive whiteboard platforms.
It is interesting that Promethean has gone for the “No OS – Secure by Design” approach with the ActivPanel 10 and ActivPanel 10 Premium, moving away from the built-in Android OS used by many SMART and Clevertouch models. Other brands also offer OPS options, but Promethean has made this more central to the ActivPanel 10 range.
The prices are competitive, and schools moving from older boards should check compatibility with existing flipcharts and lesson resources, as this can make changing platforms much easier for staff.
