Laptop Warranty Extension Cover
Most laptops come with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty as standard. Schools should usually consider extending this to 3 years, especially where devices are used heavily by staff or pupils.
Extended laptop warranties are often affordable, typically costing around £30 to £50 per device depending on the brand, model and level of cover. As a school laptop will usually have a lifespan of around 3 to 5 years under normal use, we believe extended warranty cover is often a worthwhile extra cost, especially when schools bulk buy laptops for teachers or classroom use.
If laptops are purchased through an operating lease and must be returned to the leasing company at the end of the term, we strongly recommend taking out an extended laptop warranty. This helps reduce the risk of repair or replacement costs before the devices are returned.
Server Warranties for Schools
Server warranty extensions are particularly important for schools still running on-site servers. A failed server can affect file access, printing, authentication, MIS access, backups and other critical services.

Warranties for iPads
Extended iPad warranty cover is an option schools can consider, usually adding 2 years to the standard 1-year Apple warranty. A 2-year extension may cost around £30 per device, depending on the model and supplier.
Schools should consider whether this offers good value. iPads are generally reliable devices, and standard warranty extensions do not usually cover accidental damage, broken screens or liquid damage.
For younger pupils or shared classroom sets, schools should consider tough cases and screen protectors. Accidental damage cover is also available, although it is not a popular option due to the additional cost.

Desktop Computer Warranties for Schools

Chromebook Warranty Cover
For lower-cost Chromebooks, often purchased as pupil classroom devices, Classroom365 would not normally recommend extended warranty cover unless the school wants additional peace of mind or the devices are being purchased through an operating lease.
Entry-level Chromebooks are often relatively inexpensive to replace, so extended warranties may not always offer the best value. However, for higher-spec Chromebooks, staff devices or leased equipment that must be returned in working order, warranty cover is worth considering.
Interactive Display and Whiteboard Warranties
Interactive displays from brands such as SMART, Clevertouch and Promethean often include longer manufacturer warranties than laptops or tablets, with 5 years being common in the UK. However, schools should still check the warranty period, registration requirements and what level of support is included. A 5-year warranty will normally cover the typical term of a finance or operating lease.
A broken SMART Board or interactive screen may still be repairable outside warranty. Are Hardware Warranties for Education Worth It?

For finance leases or outright purchases, the decision depends on the school’s budget, the device value and how well the equipment is likely to be looked after. Warranty cover should be considered as part of wider technology procurement, especially when schools are buying higher-value items such as servers, all-in-one computers, staff laptops and MacBooks.
For cheap Chromebooks, extended warranties may not offer good value.
